We all know the wonderful story of Dorothy and her little dog, Toto, who were swept into the mystical Land of Oz by a cyclone. There she meets a Scarecrow, a Tin Man, and of course the Cowardly Lion while trying to get to the Emerald City to see the great Wizard. Disney has intrigued us even more now with the Fantasy Adventure – Oz The Great and Powerful, that takes viewers back to before our beloved Dorothy.
I was so pleased to be invited to view this new 3D movie during opening week. Quickly, you are immersed with the graphics and visual effects of the film. Ducking now and then was normal as things and characters came flying at you.
I will admit that very young children may become scared at a point or two. I just loved the Oz The Great and Powerful and consider it a great addition to my Granny’s Sail Away Adventure. I also adore the China Doll and love the way they brought her to life in this movie. I recommend this movie and give it a big ‘thumbs – up’! Just one question…. Where are the ruby slippers?????

Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” is directed by Sam Raimi, and imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot—fame and fortune are his for the taking—that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity—and even a bit of wizardry.
