Day Of Rest & Off To SeaWorld on Granny’s Sail Away Adventure!

A day at my brother’s condo to rest up from the cruise and then time to head to SeaWorld.

521684_10151825834587565_581821358_nSeaWorld can be a fun and educational experience. Did you know killer whales have a well-developed, acute sense of hearing? They also have acute vision both in and out of the water.

SeaWorld also offers unique fun and affordable field trips for students to amazing summer adventures, SeaWorld artfully combines education and entertainment in a way that connects people to the sea and sea life like nowhere else.

As one of the world’s foremost zoological organizations and a global leader in animal welfare, training, husbandry, and veterinary care, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment maintains one of the largest animal collections in the world. The company’s SeaWorld® and Busch Gardens® parks care for more than 7,000 marine and terrestrial animals, plus approximately 60,000 fish. The collection includes more than 200 endangered or threatened species.

SeaWorld® also works closely with leading scientists, including the independent Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI). The non-profit research institution was established by the founders of SeaWorld in 1963, even before the first park opened its doors, with a mission to “return to the sea some measure of the benefits derived from it.”

The animal team’s expertise and innovation have led to advances in the care of species in zoological facilities and in the conservation of wild populations around the world.

Animal Rescue: In collaboration with the government and other members of accredited stranding networks, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment operates one of the world’s most respected programs to rescue ill and injured marine animals, with the goal to rehabilitate and return to the ocean. SeaWorld® animal experts have helped more than 22,000 animals in need – ill, injured, orphaned and abandoned – for more than four decades.

I was really impressed with the strides taken to save and then return the creatures to their own environment. When possible, the lovely beautiful animals and sea creatures are returned. Like with most organizations, Sea World is often bashed and accused of using their animals for self promoting. I found that they are very considerate of the creatures in their care. Shows are not given back to back all day long. There are only a couple of shows a day that are scheduled several hours apart. Part of the time the show arena is blocked off for rest time for the animals. Another thing I found out is the animals have free rein on being in the underwater viewing tanks. They are not forced in this tank, but are free to come and go as they please. We were in awe of the fact the killer whales were swimming and playing in their viewing tank for the visitors.

I will agree that the best place is in their own natural environment when possible just like Sea World works to do. Sea World DOES NOT steal whales and dolphins from the wild. Since humans are the cause of many injuries and lost habitats for the oceans species, I am pleased Sea World has a working conservation and care project to help endangered species and others that can not survive if returned to the wild.

As a matter of fact, the dolphin show has more Human Acrobats in the storyline than dolphin tricks…
