Recycled Coffee Creamer Jug For My Homemade Brown Gravy Mix! Recipe Included!

Non-dairy coffee creamer jugs are great as long as they have creamer in it, but what do you do when it is empty? Since I have been trying to be a little more eco-friendly around here, I decided to put a stop this waste and find a recycled use for them. Here is the outcome of my stab at reuse and recycle creamer jugs. Just call me Go Green Granny!

So I washed one jug up and took the label off. I figure this would be a great container for my Brown Gravy Mix that I make.  Works fantastic. I love it. I just pop open the cap, shake out the amount of mix I want and we are good to go. Snap the cap closed til the next time I make brown Gravy.

100_2399I plan to make a neat fancy little label for my new mix jug! So this will work for some of the other dry mixes I make. Save money, save time and save the earth!

You may wonder why I make my own mixes when I can go to the store and buy those packets already to go…. Well, my mix has ingredients I know and use everyday. Those packets at the store have ingredients I have NO CLUE what they are. There is also the cost factor!  I can make  enough homemade mix to equal 20 packets of the store bought for less than half the price. Plus, it is simple to make!

Homemade Brown Gravy Mix

100_2400Ingredients (Mix all together)

2 cups flour
1/4 cup beef bouillon granules
1/4 cup onion powder

1/4 cup garlic powder
2 tsp black pepper
1T dried parsley

1/4 cup instant coffee mix for more coloring if you wish also.

Store in airtight container (like my recycled creamer jug)

Instructions to cook gravy

Mix about 1/3 dry gravy mix with 2 cups of water in a saucepan. Whisk until smooth.

(Heat at medium until the sauce thickens)

Lets see, maybe next I will make my own chili seasoning with my next creamer jug.

Hello, I’m wondering how this tastes? I recently made a batch of DIY gravy mix, and it turned out terrible when I actually made the gravy. My son and I love gravy and neither of us wanted to eat it. Thanks so much.
