Savings Tips on Getting There and Staying There!

busPut the wallet away while you are on vacation because there are some ways that you can save money on not only your hotel room but the places you go to eat and the fun things that you do while on your trip. Sites like Hipmunk often have information about hotels in areas across the country as well as ways to get discounts for the rooms.

Whether you’re driving or flying to your destination, you will likely need some kind of transportation after you get there. If you don’t want to drive yourself, consider public transportation. You can call a cab, ride a bus or use a shuttle to get to where you want in the city. Another option is to walk, which is a way to not only save money but to get exercise while on vacation.

chefWhen you’re looking for something to do with the family, see what attractions offer free days or discounts. Most attractions will offer times when admission is free. These times are usually during the week, but you can sometimes get a reduced rate on the weekends or if you are in the military. If you don’t see any information on a website, then call the business to see if there are any deals that aren’t advertised. This also works for restaurants. Some will offer free meals for military members or emergency workers. Children usually get free meals as well or a lower priced meal than adults.

Some online companies give gift certificates after you have spent a certain amount or accumulated a certain number of points. You can usually choose the kind of gift certificate you want. This is a good way to get an expensive meal at an affordable price. It also works if you have a lot of people who are on vacation together. One of the easiest ways to save money while on vacation is to find a hotel room that has a kitchen. You can prepare meals like you would at home, saving going out to eat for once or twice while you are on your trip. Save this meal for something that you might not get in your home town.
